I watched Indestructible last night with my son (I might have told you that he has physical disabilities). We were both stunned and overwhelmed. Your courage in so honestly presenting your personal struggles, vulnerabilities and character is nothing short of amazing. I found it to be extraordinary.

General FAQ

What is ALS?
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a fatal, rapidly-progressing neuromuscular disease that affects hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. There is no known cause, no treatment, no cure and life expectancy is 2-5 years from time of diagnosis. It affects men and women equally, regardless of ethnicity, genetics or behavior. Ben Byer, the writer, director and producer of Indestructible, died of ALS on July 3, 2008, almost 6 years from his diagnosis and only a few days after he made the final edits to Indestructible, his first and only feature length film.

What do you do with the money that is donated?
As with any business, it costs money for us to operate and bring Indestructible, and future projects, to the public. We have numerous costs associated with overhead, production, office supplies, marketing, etc. Donations, grant funds and sponsorships allow us to continue to provide the DVD of Indestructible to ALS patients at no charge.  We are also working to implement a variety of programs that will educate about ALS through creative and accessible means.  These programs include:  a series of online web videos dealing with a variety of topics related to ALS; sending DVDs of Indestructible to members of Congress; screenings in medical centers and clinics nationwide.

Will Indestructible be in theaters?
Indestructible has seen a limited theatrical release in 2008 in Los Angeles, Madison, WI, San Francisco, Chicago and Portland, OR. We will continue looking for theaters that would like to program the film in other communities.

Do you have a distribution company?
Until January 2009, Indestructible has been self-distributed by ALS Film Fund, primarily through word of mouth and a grassroots marketing campaign.  It was released in theaters in select cities in the US in 2008, as well as on DVD.

Indestructible and Journeyman Pictures Ltd. have entered into a distribution deal which will focus primarily on broadcast (television) distribution worldwide, however Journeyman will also work to get the film into more theaters, online download, and increase DVD sales on an international level.
